How we use AI

AI Policy

How artificial intelligence is used on this site: an assistant that answers only from our database and cites its sources, AI-assisted drafting under human control and clearly disclosed, and no AI-generated tips.

On this page

Two uses, two sets of rules

AI is used on this site in two ways: an assistant that answers readers' questions, and tools that may help the editorial desk draft and structure content. Each is governed by the rules below.

Ask Cheltenham: the on-site assistant

What it does. Answers questions about the Cheltenham Festival by retrieving information from our own database — verified results and records, race facts, trainer and jockey totals, betting definitions and published articles — and composing an answer from what it retrieved.

How it is grounded.

RuleIn practice
Database onlyThe assistant answers from data retrieved from our database and published content. It has no free-text path to invent a result, a price or a statistic.
Sources shownEach answer lists the records or articles it drew on, so you can check it.
Unknown means unknownIf the database does not hold the answer, the assistant says so. It does not guess.
Prices are labelledWhere the assistant refers to prices, it carries the same DEMO or indicative labelling as the rest of the site.
No tips, no adviceIt can show published tips and their record. It does not generate tips, predictions or personal betting advice.
SafeguardsIt will not encourage betting, will not discuss stakes, and will point to responsible-gambling support if a conversation suggests difficulty. It does not engage with users who indicate they are under 18.

Limits. The assistant is only as complete as the database. As of September 2026 the database holds verified 2026 results for 15 of the 28 races, the last ten winners of the four championship races and the trainer and jockey totals listed on sources and data. Ask it about a race we have not verified and it will tell you we have not.

Logging. Questions and answers are logged so that errors can be found and fixed. See the privacy policy for how that data is handled.

AI-assisted drafting

  • AI tools may help the editorial desk with drafting, structuring and editing under human control.
  • Any article where AI assisted is marked AI-assisted on the page.
  • Every factual claim in every article — AI-assisted or not — is verified by a person against a cited source before publication, under the editorial policy.
  • AI does not decide what to publish, what to tip or how to rate a bookmaker.

What AI is not used for

  • Generating tips or predictions.
  • Generating results, prices or statistics.
  • Inventing quotes, people or bylines.
  • Writing content that is published without human review.

Reporting a problem

If an assistant answer or an article is wrong, tell us via the contact page. Reports are handled under the corrections policy; assistant errors are used to improve the retrieval rules.
