Editorial Policy
The rules every article on this site is written under: verified facts only, analysis labelled as analysis, sources cited, dates shown, no invented experts and no language of certainty.

Purpose
This policy governs everything published on Cheltenham Betting Tips: articles, race pages, results, records, tips and the answers given by our Ask Cheltenham assistant. It exists so that readers can see how content is made and hold us to it.
1. Facts
- Every racing fact is traced to a source. Results, starting prices, distances, dates, totals and records are published only when they appear in our verified-facts register with the source that supports them. Sources are listed on each article.
- Unverified means unpublished — or labelled. Where a fact could not be verified, we either omit it or state plainly that it is unverified. We do not fill gaps from memory and we do not repeat figures simply because other sites do.
- Conflicting sources are disclosed. Where sources disagree (the number of Willie Mullins' leading-trainer titles, for instance) we publish the figure from the more authoritative source and flag the discrepancy.
- Single-source figures are flagged. Where a number rests on one reference table, we say so (for example the 2017–2025 Stayers' Hurdle starting prices).
2. Fact-check statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Unchecked | Not yet reviewed against the register. Not normally shown publicly. |
| In progress | Published, with at least one claim still being cross-checked; the article says which. |
| Verified | Every factual claim in the article is traced to the register. |
| Disputed | A claim has been challenged and is under investigation; the article says so. |
3. Analysis and opinion
- Analysis is labelled as analysis. A trend is a count from a table on the page, with the working shown, and we state what the table cannot show.
- Opinion is labelled as opinion. A tip is an opinion with a price and a public record.
- We do not present a small sample as a rule. Ten runnings of a race is ten runnings.
4. Language
We never use words that promise a result, describe a bet as free of risk or present betting as a way to make money — nor "banker" in the sense of a certainty, nor any equivalent. Betting involves the possibility of loss and our copy says so where it matters. We write in British English in a calm, evidence-first register.
5. Dates and freshness
Every article displays:
- Published — first publication.
- Updated — the last substantive change.
- Reviewed — the last editorial review, even where nothing changed.
- Next review — when it is due to be checked again.
- Data as of — the timestamp of the data the article uses.
Times are shown in UK time with the zone stated. Ante-post prices, where shown, carry the date they were seen.
6. People
We do not invent experts, tipsters, quotes or bylines. Content is attributed to the editorial desk until named contributors join, at which point they are shown with their complete tipping record.
7. Independence
Editorial decisions are not influenced by bookmakers, affiliates, advertisers, owners, trainers or anyone else. Affiliate arrangements are disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page and bookmaker ratings follow published criteria — see how we rate bookmakers.
8. Odds and prices
Prices shown on the site are either from a licensed data provider (when connected) or clearly labelled DEMO. Indicative ante-post prices from third-party reports are described as such and never presented as live odds from a named bookmaker. Details on sources and data.
9. Gambling compliance
The site is for adults aged 18 and over. A responsible-gambling message and links to BeGambleAware.org, GamCare and GamStop appear near every bookmaker link. We do not target, and do not knowingly show gambling content to, anyone under 18. See responsible gambling.
10. AI
AI tools may assist with drafting under human control; any such article is marked AI-assisted. Our Ask Cheltenham assistant answers only from our database and cites sources. See the AI policy.
11. Corrections
Errors are corrected promptly and transparently, with a note on the article. See the corrections policy and contact us to report one.
